How to Add an AI Chatbot to Your Website Without Coding
22 October 2026
Most small businesses do not need a developer to put an AI chatbot on their website. They need about fifteen minutes, the answers they already give customers every day, and one line of code that you copy and paste. This guide walks through the whole thing for a business owner, in plain language, using the Business Assistant in Ail for Business.
What the chatbot actually does
A website chatbot answers the questions your customers ask again and again: what you charge, when you are open, where you are, whether you have something in stock, how to book. It answers only from what you wrote, at any hour, in the customer's own words. When it does not know, it says so politely and points the customer to you. It does not make things up to sound clever.
That last part matters. A chatbot that guesses is worse than no chatbot, because a wrong price or a wrong timing costs you a customer's trust.
Step 1: Write down what a customer would ask
Open a notes app and list the ten questions you answered most this month. Under each one, write the answer exactly as you would say it on the phone. Add your prices, opening hours, address, how to book, and anything you are always asked about delivery, refunds or payment.
You do not need to make it sound formal. Short, plain sentences work best, because the assistant will speak in the same plain way.
Step 2: Create your assistant
Sign in at Ail for Business, choose to set up an assistant, and paste in what you wrote. Give it your business name and a short link name, like sharma-clinic. Add a contact line, for example your phone number, which the assistant shows whenever it cannot help. There are starter templates for common businesses such as clinics, shops and coaching centres if you would rather edit than start from nothing.
Every new owner gets 50 free messages, so you can test it properly before paying anything.
Step 3: Try it like a customer
Open your assistant's chat page and ask it the real questions your customers ask, including the awkward ones. Ask something it should not know and check that it admits it. If an answer is wrong or missing, fix the text you wrote and ask again. Most of the quality of a chatbot comes from this loop, not from any setting.
Step 4: Put it on your website
You get two ways to share it. The first is a link you can send on WhatsApp or put in your Instagram bio. The second is a chat button on your own website, which you add by pasting one line before the closing body tag of your pages:
<script src="https://www.ailighthouse.in/assistant-widget.js" data-slug="your-link-name" defer></script>
On WordPress, Wix, Shopify, Squarespace and most other builders there is a place for custom code or scripts in the settings, and you paste it there. If you can edit the page's HTML, paste it in directly.
Step 5: List your website so nobody else can use it
The chat button only works on websites you have listed. Add your own address, such as yourshop.com, and its subdomains are covered too, so www.yourshop.com works as well. This stops anyone from copying your line of code onto their site and spending your messages. Trying the button on your own computer while you build always works.
Step 6: Keep it under your control
Set a daily cap if you want a hard limit on how many messages visitors can use in a day. The assistant tells you when your balance is running low, and every reply comes out of your own message balance, so there are no surprises. Packs start at Rs 499 for 800 messages, with larger packs for busier businesses.
Step 7: Read what it could not answer
Once a week, the assistant can email you the questions it could not answer. Treat that list as free market research: each question is something a real customer wanted to know. Add the answer to your text and the same question is handled next time.
What it will not do
It will not take payments, book into your calendar on its own, or replace talking to a customer who needs a person. It answers questions, collects a customer's details when you turn that on, and sends everyone else to you. If you want it connected to your orders or bookings, or you want a WhatsApp assistant built for you, talk to us and we will quote it after a free call.
